Full bottle inspection at the pulse of time

The HEUFT eXaminer II XOS sets the standard for the inspection of full containers with its further developed pulsed X-rays and smart AI. There is correspondingly strong demand for the modular all-in-one complete solution in the beverage industry in order to detect glass in glass as reliably as many other safety and quality defects with a minimal false rejection rate. At drinktec 2022 in Munich, it will be one of the trade show highlights.

Awareness is growing: wherever beverages are filled into glass bottles, a full container inspection is indispensable. For tricky glass-in-glass detection after filling and capping, it is establishing itself as the state of the art. Particularly when it also detects defects in the glass or transparent films in the beverage in one and the same operation.

The HEUFT eXaminer II XOS sets the standards here and is in demand throughout the entire beverage industry. Increasingly also by beer producers and entire brewery groups. It ensures sustainable consumer and brand protection at a high output – and fulfils the specifications for the use of the best available technology which form the basis for certification according to standards such as the IFS Food.

More precise glass-in-glass detection, fewer false rejections

Because this is certainly in the modular HEUFT system. It is the only one of its kind to combine sophisticated high-performance optics with pulsed X-rays exclusively available from us. The X-ray tube and generator are completely developed and designed in-house. The latest innovations in the generation of millisecond X-ray pulses, image conversion and processing ensure more coverage on the one hand: no area of the base remains unexamined. On the other hand, the new generators and digital full-field image converters further increase the sensitivity of detection. Even particularly small or weakly absorbing objects such as extremely flat or needle-shaped glass splinters at the bottom of the full bottle become even more clearly visible.

The AI-supported HEUFT reflexx A.I. image processing also contributes to this. Among other things it compensates for variations in the glass thickness at the bottom of the bottle and smartly removes inhomogeneities, image noise and artefacts from the X-ray exposures. Real defects can thus be distinguished even more reliably from presumed ones; the false rejection rate during full container inspection remains negligibly low – and thus also the unnecessary waste of product and packaging.

Less maintenance, more speed

At the same time, the lifetime of the X-ray modules has increased significantly. Filaments, for example, are even redundantly integrated: if one of the two should fail, the other immediately takes over without manual intervention. The risk of unforeseen line stops and production downtimes due to acute maintenance requirements is thus significantly reduced.

And where conventional X-ray scanners can no longer keep up because the filling line is running too fast the unique pulsed X-rays continues to score with detection power independent of speed at the lowest possible radiation: even when 72,000 full glass bottles have to be inspected every hour the new full-field image converters in the HEUFT eXaminer II XOS receive and process every single X-ray flash fast enough. This results in reliably sharp X-ray images even in high-speed operation.

In a unique combination with full-coverage high-performance optics the perfected glass-in-glass detection with pulsed X-rays thus clearly defines the state of the art in the increasingly indispensable full container inspection. The further developed HEUFT eXaminer II XOS is therefore right on the pulse of time!
